Charleston Crafts Features Works by Nancy Badgley and Dorothy Kitchens
Charleston Crafts in downtown Charleston, SC, will present an exhibition for the month of March featuring Nancy Badgley's hand-dyed silk creations, along with the decorative carved pottery of Dorothy Kitchens. Originally from New York, Nancy Badgley has been a resident of the Summerville area for the last 25 years. Her works include an eclectic array of hand-dyed silk wearable garments, hand bags, pins, and framed silk pieces. Her offbeat expression of color and design feature whimsical cats and eccentric women. She uses various techniques such as overdying, discharging, and block printing. Mostly self taught, Nancy's art can be seen at the Artisan Center in Walterboro, as well as Charleston Crafts.
Dorothy Kitchens is a native of Charleston, and her inspiration comes from the everyday beauty of her surroundings. She primarily works with porcelain using decorative techniques such as sgraffito, underglazing, and wax resist. This exhibit will include some of her most recent works focusing on black and white sgraffito designs. Dorothy received her BFA in 2003 from Augusta State University. In addition to her porcelain work, Charleston crafts carries Dorothy's expressive and unique Face Jugs. For more information, please contact Charleston Crafts or come by for a visit.
